The Most Melodic Guitar Interval?
Hey everyone, today I am going through “The Most Melodic Guitar Interval.”
Okay, so this is definitely subjective, but in my mind, the sound of 10ths is sublime.
Taking a close second for me are 6th intervals.
What is a 10th you ask? Well, that is when you play a low note on the guitar and go up through the scale from that note until you are on the 10th note of that scale.
Another way to look at it is, it is the 3rd of a chord up an octave.
You can do this from each note of each chord derived from that scale.
If that is over your head, no matter, you can learn that later, but right now you can dig into these intervals in the key of C which I have organized from the E and A string roots.
Now check out how John Frusciante from Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Edge from U2 create riffs using these intervals:
Okay, so now that you know a little bit about 10ths, go try and be creative with them.
Below is the video that you can watch for a little more direction and how these intervals sound.
Enjoy!
