Ozzy’s Top 3 Guitarists and Riffs!
Hey everyone, today I am going to teach you 3 riffs, one from each of Ozzy’s 3 most legendary guitarists.
First up I am going to show you a sweet riff by none other than Randy Rhoads, Ozzy’s first guitar phenom who was tragically killed in a plane crash at the tender age of 25.
“Suicide Solution,” the guitar riff, uses what is called “pedal point,” a very common trait of 80s heavy metal music. At the end, a series of quick pull offs put an exclamation point on the riff. Tab is hard coded into the video.
Next up is Jake E. Lee. Many mistakenly attribute Jake as Ozzy’s second guitarist, but two other guitarists snuck in there before him (Berne Torme very briefly and Brad Gillis). Jake brought a similar fire to the band, adding several very unique techniques including fake delay, thumb chording, and double octave hammer ons.
The riff from “Bark At The Moon,” also uses pedal point, and contains some nasty stretches so make sure your hands are warmed up thoroughly before you attempt this one.
Finally, we have Zakk Wylde. Zakk succeeded Jake E. Lee and brought a stunning vibrato along with speedy pentatonic flurries to Ozzy’s music.
The riff to “Miracle Man” was the first single Ozzy issued with the 21 year old Zakk Wylde. This riff also featured the now familiar pedal point technique.
Let me know in the comments which of the 3 guitarists you prefer.
